Mackenzies of Lots of Scoraig

Just to add my twopennyworth - I too, am related to the Mckenzie's from Rherivach / Scoraig.

My friend and I have visited there twice.

My ancestral family home is now known as Shanti Griha.

A sister of my great-grandmother is buried in Bord Buie cemetery, Dundonnell, but I haven't been fortunate enough to find out where any of the others are buried.

As a footnote, CISSIE88 turns out to be my 3rd cousin - perhaps Mavey and I are related in some way too.

Doing some digging. The Margaret mckenzie I have became Margaret Robertson when she married the blacksmith from rickfield. She was my grans grandmother. Kenneth Mckenzie as referred to in steves website I had problems tracing his parents too although I believe they were Abby and Donald. The other reason I think that's his parents name is kenneths childrens names. We have a string naming pattern in our family that continues til now. I have just dug out census records and I have a John mc or Mackenzie in rireavaich 1841 census aged 20 fisherman. Also a John in another household same census aged 18 with parents Murdoch and janet.

We (Heilanlassie and myself) are related to Murdock and Janet who had 4 children-Simon, Catherine,John and Murdock. John the shepherd married Abigail in 1850 and had 7 children including a Kenneth (1855).What was the name of your Kenneths wife?

I hope we can find a connection somewhere. I'm intrigued.

I am also related to Murdoch Mackenzie from Rhirevach who married Janet Macrae and believe Shanta Gira is where they lived.... They had a son Simon who was my great great grandfather.  It's a long time, about 20 years, since I traced my family tree and just happened upon this site today.  I now must go and find my notes.
What brought me to a stop is that when I checked the marriages for 1770, or around then..... 2 Malcolm Mckenzies married 2 Janet Macraes in Lochbroom Parish in the same month and same year!

Just adding something else I remember..... 
This Simon MacKenzie had a brother Murdo who I think became a farmer in Letters.  They also had a daughter Christina who was born in May 1849, can't remember the rest of the names.

Hello Rosieross, I am also a descendant from his nephew who was also a Simon Mckenzie from Rireabhach. Which of your Simon's children are you descended from; Christina, Donald or Annie ?

My great grandmother was Christina Mackenzie, her father was Simon Mackenzie and her mother Janet  or Jessie.  I have noticed a few times that Janets were sometimes called Jessie.

Your great grandmother, Christina Mackenzie (1849) was my 1st cousin 3xremoved.

Her father, Simon Mackenzie (1816) was my 2nd great grand uncle.

Simon had two brothers, John (1822) and Murdoch (1825) as well as a sister, Catherine (1816)

Catherine was my 2nd great grandmother.

Isn't this family research just fascinating
