Llan-y-boid Farm, Pontyberem
« on: Monday 30 May 11 23:36 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find my great uncle Frederick EVANS's wife's maiden name.

Frederick was born on 05.12.1874 in Milford Haven, PEM. By 1901 he was a miner in the Rhondda. He was not married at that time.

At some time he married Lizzie (Eliza? Elizabeth?). According to my cousin, after his death Lizzie went to live with a niece at Llan-y-boid Farm, Pontyberem. She died in the mid 1950s at the farm. Apparently I went there when I was 7 or 8 years old (ca 1955)!

I know I'm grasping at straws, but can anyone help me with this. Is/was there such a farm? Does anyone know who owned it in the fifties?

Thaks

Ian Evans

Did they have any children?  If so - any born from the September qtr of 1911 will have Lizzie's maiden name shown against the entry

www.freebmd.org.uk

Have you looked for Frederick on the 1911 census to see if he was married by then as it will tell you the number of years married which will help finding the marriage on freebmd

Hi CaroleW,

Thanks for reply. Major work on house has prevented an equally swift response.

Two problems over finding the marriage of Frederick EVANS:

1. I did not know where he was married!! His brother went from Pembrokeshire to the Rhondda, and then returned to Pembrokeshire. So he could have married in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, or Glamogan. I tried to find him on the 1911 Census, but was rather overawed by the number of search results.

2. My own stickability!!

However, from a recently-received marriage certificate, I now know that Frederick EVANS married Elizabeth WATTS on 20 Apr 1909 in Pontypridd Register Office.

I am still interested in the Carmarthen link. Was there such a farm at Pontyberem?  Practically all S Pembrokians of my generation cannot speak Welsh, so it is probable that my cousin has pronounced or spelled the name correctly!! She calls Llanelli 'Lanelthy'!!

Tahnks fro your interest.

Ian EVANS
