Hi
How do you know she is born in Kirkby Stephen?   Have you searched the film of the register to see if she is there.  IGI coverage does not start until after that date as far as i can see so it will mean looking at the original.  KS History Society may be able to help you too.
Regards
Andrea

Who were the witnesses at the wedding?  Often they are family members.

No Carlisle marriage licence extant  for this wedding either.

However, there is a marriage licence dated 24 Nov 1751 for Sarah Longstaff a spinster of KS with the marriage to take place at KS.   Could this be a sister of your Elizabeth?  If you want the details then let me know.

regards
Deborah

It doesn't add much more - but here are the entries from the Carlisle marriage licences:

24 Nov 1751
John Scaife of Mallerstang p Kirkby Stephen
Sarah  Longstaff, Soulby do, spinster
bondsman: Thos Hutton, do do
marriage to take place at Kirkby Stephen

(I assume the do do means that Thomas was also of Soulby in KS.

There is also a John Longstaffe yeoman of KS acting as bonsman for a marriage licence of 4 Apr 1741 for John Raine and Margaret Haistwell.

and this:
25 Oct 1756
John Longstaff, Kirkby Stephen, bachelor, carpenter
Eliz Snowden, do, spinster
bondsman: Michaell Haiswell, do, carpenter
marriage to take place at Kirkby Stephen

These are the only Longstaff marriage licence references between 1740 and 1762.  (The only Hais(t)well references in the same time period as well - some others to Haswel.)

Hope it helps
regards
Deborah
