Be sure to check the funeral notices in the days following his death. It may be that the man did not have any friends or family to place notices but the funeral directors usually do.

Thanks again, think I'm out of luck.  I've checked through every issue from the day he died to a month later and nothing.  I'm beginning to wonder whether I can do anything else...it seems like the trail has ended :(

I would try speaking by phone or email to the cemetery directly.

They may tell you who paid for the Cremation.

Perhaps it will be a realtive and give you another lead.

I think you will have the contact details for Karrakatta as you have used the search site previously.

Perhaps try whitepages...there are AUSTEN listings in WA
http://www.whitepages.com.au/search/residential

Have you tried for a record of either probate or letters of admin?  Indexes are not normally restricted - Victoria has a searchable index to probate registers online to date, but I can't find anything for WA.  Perhaps if you contact the Supreme Court they will be able to search for you and give you details of whether you are able to apply for a copy.  http://www.supremecourt.wa.gov.au/

Would he have been collecting a defence pension?  I'm not sure who would have records of this - perhaps the British MOD?

Deb's advice is excellent and really only information/advice that hasn't been given on the various forums where you have sought help.

Scroll down the page to Western Australia for more specific instructions.

If you look at the AUSTEN burial records there are two deaths of which one is Kingsley, at the suburb of Nedlands and perhaps it is only coincidental, but both have been cremated and ashed taken from a cemetery - one Fremantle and Kingsley's from Karakatta.  Perhaps it is his wife :-\.  I would do a search for her death notice or funeral notice as this lady pre-deceased him.

Have you tried contacting any of these type of organistions which reunite service people? You may be able to find someone who served wih him and stayed in contact.

As his death was so recent, you need to be aware of the rules that apply for obtaining a copy of the certificate.

Dee :)

Is this lady his last surviving relative?  WA website indicates certificate may be available to her as 'other relative'.

The other thing to try would be to post a notice in The West Australian asking if anyone can help you find out more about him.

Email: CanYouHelp[at]wanews.com.au

It might take several weeks before they run your message, but it's free and I've had some luck with it in the past.

Or going back to Cando's idea that you contact the library - you could ask them to check the whitepages for 2004 for a listing and address.

Something has to shed some light on this eventually!
Johns - Cornwall
McNerney - Manchester
Speakman - Manchester
Warman - Faringdon
Utting - Norfolk

There was a White Pages listing from 1998 to 2003/4 for a K Austen at Nedlands and it was the only listing at Nedlands.  That listing is not in the current White Pages.   Because of privacy I will send the address to you via private message.  It would appear that his wife is also deceased.  And Yes Cando you are right in your last post!
