Not in my tree, but are you sure he was born in 1878?

I can see a marriage for this name  in 1878 (forenames probably a mistranscription of Ludwig Heinrich Gustav), with Ann Jane MOTTERSHEAD on the same page, and the 1881 census shows "Gustave Chas." and Ann Jane ROSTOCK living with Ann's family in Everton.

Gustave is a ship's steward, and is recorded as a British subject, born c1855 in Kiel, Germany.

There are several mentions of Charles Rostock and G C Rostock in the Liverpool Mercury. He was a freemason: PM Derby Lodge 724 per his death notice in 1900. Buried at Longmoor Lane.  The death notice also says "Frisco papers please copy" so there must be a California connection.
