Arburt ??? in Galway - where is it
« on: Monday 13 June 11 05:23 BST (UK) »
On immigrant ship passenger arrival written records, my Irish ancestor is shown as arriving in Austrlia in 1864 on the ship Sirocco and his origins from Arburt Galway Ireland. I have not been able to locate "Arburt"

I suspect that "Arburt" is possibly the written expression of an English ear listening to a broad Irish accent.

Can any RC members suggest what and where is "Arburt" around the mid 1860s??

Thanks

Michael

Thanks Saddles

Well done - right on the spot!
There was another word written on the ships record which I could not decipher. Given the benefit of your response, I can now see that this word is is most likely Monivea.
Cheers
