« on: Wednesday 15 June 11 19:15 BST (UK) »
I am looking to find information about Charles McArthur born in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, Scotland on 8th November, 1862.  Father. Charles McArthur Mother : Jane McKinney.  Family information says that he emigrated to New Zealand and I would dearly like to find out more about this line of my husband's family

Hi

Welcome to the NZ Board.

Looks like Charles was cremated and further information can be obtained from the Karori Cemetery Office.

Cheers
KHP

Wow! many many thanks Janette and KHP.  This is just another piece of family history information that my mother-in-law remembered correctly.  She remembered an uncle coming back to Dumbarton and bringing her an amber bead necklace.  She was a mine of information.

From his wife's obituary it would appear that 2 of Charles McArthur's sons, Donald Ferguson McArthur and Archibald John Dale McArthur, were also captains.  Is there an easy way of finding out if they were merchant seamen or navy personnel?
