Marquis family Tarbert
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 00:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,I would love to find out about my Marquis family from Tarbert Loch Fyne.

I have an Alexander Marquis and a Catherine McCoag/McCaog  announcing banns in 1818 in Kilcalmonnel and Kilberry, but I dont know anything else about Alexander or Catherine.

They have a son Dugald who married a Mary McMillan 1846 in Tarbert, Mary died before 1856 (havent found her death record yet), Dugald went on to marry a Mary Johnston in 1856,

Mary on her marriage certificate to Dugald states that her addoptive parent was a ? Johnston, I think there maybe a connection to a Gillespie

I have the family on my line nearly up to date, so if anyone can help with Catherine and Alexander,or Mary McMillan I would be really grateful.

 names  from Tarbert are,McEachern,McDougall,McFarlane,Bain,Sinclair,McLeod
tinsmiths and hawkers Watson,Wilson,Swales,Hartley,Neilson,Johnstone and many more
Dumbartonshire/Doran.Lees,Brooks,Boyle,Stewart
Argyllshire,Marquis,McCoag,Johnson,McEacheren,Sinclair and Bain

Hi,

I come from Tarbert Lochfyne and know of the Marquis family who are in my age group.  Also interested in Catherine Maccaog as she listed  as my gr Grandmother's mother, however, she was not the mother.

Hi ,

The Marquis I remember in Tarbert was James, he was a baker and his wife Mary.  Surname for Mary I do not know, but last I heard she is 94 or 96 and lives with Daughter (*). Other daughter was Christine, she died

I am also interested in McDougall's as both grandparents were McDougall, also have Maceacherns in family.  Tarbert still hasJohnson, Sinclairs and Bains as far as I know.

I thought that I read you were on Genes but I was not able to connect with Florabrooks.

www.ralstongenealogy.com will give you Tarbert graveyard.

Hi Flora,  Yes I do believe there is a connection via the McDougalls.  I have not done any research on that side but do have some info ,
My grandparents were:James McDougall b 05 11 1874 and Margaret McDougall b 19 06 1875. James' parents were James Mc Dougall and Mary Leitch.
Margaret's parents were Dugald McDougall and Margaret Gray.
This will give you  an idea if they are in the same age group as your McDougalls.

My grandfather had no sibling named John Mc Dougall.  My grandmother I do not know.

At this time I do know other McDougalls in Tarbert and I do believe they had John. They would be cousins I'm sure.

As I am new to Rootschat I do not know how I should give you more personal information in order that you may follow up with the people I know.  I would get in touch with them to see if they are receptive for your follow up.  Some people are not into family tree stuff!!!!!

Thanks for your replies.  Dooker
