Joseph WILLIAMS
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 04:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have just discovered my great grandfather Joseph Williams was born in St.Blazey, Cornwall in 1841.  He married Barbara Ellen Humphries in Australia in 1877.
I would love to know when he left Cornwall and came to Australia.

Thanks,
Bev (Waddles)

I have traced Joseph and his family from St.Blazey 1841 to 1871 where Joseph, 30, mason, is living with his wife Elizabeth, 32 b. St. Mewan in St.Austell.

They/he would have come to Australia during or after 1871.

Thanks for the information you emailed me.  Upon further invesitagion I have found that Joseph married an Australian woman Barbara Ellen Humphries in Victoria in 1877.  I wonder what happened to Elizabeth.

There is a death -

Elizabeth Williams age 32 died - June qtr 1871 - District of Redruth Cornwall.

This is the right age but I can't understand why the death was registered in Redruth and not St. Austell.  Maybe a different Elizabeth, only the death certificate will confirm this.

Thanks for the prompt answer to my query.  It has been a fascinating journey tracing my family.  I was led to believe that my father's side of the family was 4th generation Aussie, but have found out that my great grandfather Joseph was English.  On my mother's side my grandmother was born in Clapham, so I am more English than I thought.  I have already found a third cousin in Northhampton shire.
