Obwan

Your Martin was born 1836 to a Martin Mahon.

I am working on the presumption that Martin senior lived until the 1850's when the Griffiths Valuation was done here.

I can only find one Martin Mahon in Galway on the GV BUT for various reasons heads of families don't show up on GV.

Anyway ~

Martin Mahon Roevehagh

Yes we went to Lavally - this was thought to be a possible place based on Lawley - we only have a transcript - need to travel to South Australia to see if I can look at original copy

Hi There

Can you not get it by email ?

Sorry, I'm not getting any great leads with regards to a Lawrence Mahon.

I would say to both you guys to keep the surname Mahoney / Mahony in mind, just incase they dropped the 'Y' when they emmigrated !

No, the South Australian BD&M still is a manual system & the South Australian Society of Genealogists have a transcription service - will be heading over there in a few months & was going to get view of original when I visit! - Thanks for the tip re dropping  the "Y"! Knew about dropping the "O" as half our family are Neill & the other half O'Neill!!

Yes

I should have mentioned that too !

O's & Mc's were added and dropped all the time too so need to be taken into consideration when searching.

Enjoy Your Trip  ;D
