I am searching for my Great Grandfather, one Percival Sheppard, born in Brighton Surrey England in 1853. The Percy Sheppard mentioned as the 17 year old son of James Sheppard seems to fit the bill. My forebear ended up in New Zealand and had a number of children including my grandfather but he "abandoned" his family and went to Australia, some say; others say he went to the Otago (NZ) goldfields and was never heard from again, likely met his death which was not unusual.
