Have you already discounted the following entries

There is an 1881 entry indexed as Alexanda  Ina MacKay b 1869 Latheron shown as niece but no other occupants shown on transcription so you would need to view the image on SP  Latheron ED 6 Page 16 Line 9

Also a Margret (note spelling) McKay aged 8 b Latheron - daughter - but again - no other occupants shown

Latheron ED 15 Page 6 Line 7

Also a John McKay aged 41 salmon fisher b Farr living in Thurso

Thurso ED 5 Page  12 Line 8

And a John McKay labourer aged 42 b Farr living in Reay

Reay ED 5 Page 26 Line 1

This is already confusing, however the John Mackay b 1837 and married to Margaret Gunn are I think my wifes ancestors. However according to census records he was born in Thurso not Farr Sutherland but that is where the family originally comes from. The son John Mackay b. 1867 was born in Latheronwheel according to a 1911 UK census. This family moved to Burnley Lancs. in the 1880s. The father of the 1837 John Mackay also John Mackay b. c. 1807 was married to Bell Wallace in 1826 in Thurso and John bc 1807 is shown on a census record as occupation Flisher this is I am sure Flesher or butcher accordingto other information I have .
