Great to be able to tie up John's 1st marriage and Neil present as witness.

Costing me a fortune on SP though  :D

When and where was John's first marriage (to try and get a timeline for Neil)?

Monica

Added: Just seen first marriage was 1897  :P So, brother Neil in Scotland around that time. Not that we can easily find him on the censuses!

I think I've found Neil in 1911 census has a Neil McKinnon Anderston District of Glasgow (age 50) which is exactly right, very close to Donald's family too.

That entry for Neil sounds promising.

Ok...Malcolm...another possibility...taking him to the US  ::)

There is a Malcolm McKinnon showing in the US censuses from 1900 who married a Janet in the 1880s going by the births of their children. On the 1900 census, this Malcolm shows as a carpenter, married 15 years, with 6 children born/alive:

This is the household entry for 1900 in East Orange, Essex, New Jersey:

Malcolm Mckinnon 40 carpenter b. Scotland - birth date Aug 1859...it's a match!
Jenet Mckinnon 39 b. Scotland
Annie Mckinnon 14 b. Scotland
Catherine Mckinnon 13 b. Scotland
Flora Mckinnon 10 b. New Jersey
Archibald Mckinnon 9 b. New Jersey
Duncan Mckinnon 7 b. New Jersey
Malcolm Mckinnon 5 b. New Jersey

Now this one for Neil is weird!!

Born Lanarkshire according to the census BUT very young wife previous children AND a son Archibald!!  How likely is he??

ps I've just seen your post Monica that is a brillant find!!  So we have Malcolm too.  ;D

By 1911 Neil may have been in Lanarkshire for a long time, so perhaps not surprising he may have put that for his birth place by 1911. Fingers crossed so that we have all three brothers  :)

Regarding Malcolm and family in the US, their 1920 entry at Cambridge Street, East Orange, Essex, New Jersey::

Malcolm Mackinnon 60 carpenter
Jeanet Mackinnon 60
Flora Mackinnon 29 stenographer
Catharine V Mackinnon 31 retouching
Duncan B Mackinnon 26 plumber
Malcolm Mackinnon 24 artist

Monica

Added: Malcolm arrived in NY on 23 May 1887 on the 'Furnessia', a joiner b. 1859. I think wife and daughters followed the following year. Matches what is showing on their census entries in the US.
