Missing person - Albert Leonard New
« on: Saturday 25 June 11 07:50 BST (UK) »
Hi,
We are trying to find what happened to Albert Leonard New b. 24.12.1883 after 1911, when he was living at Newbury, England aged 28 years, a Painter.   He was living with his Uncle & Aunt, John & Fanny New, at that time, but a few days later after the census was taken, John & Fanny migrated to Australia.    Albert was married to Fanny Elizabeth Townsend Wheeler in 1904, had a son Roy Leslie Townsend New born 1906.   By 1911 census, his son is not with his father. No more is known what happened to Albert Leonard New after 1911.

In fact so far cannot find where his wife was living as well, but we do know that she died in 1914 in Newbury.

Wonder if anyone could assist me to see if there are any shipping records for his possible migration to Australia, or even Canada, as later on, his son was sent there as a Home Child in 1920.

We just cannot find his death anywhere in England, just disappeared off the face of the earth.

Just saw this thread [from a link to a new NEW thread]

Have you obtained Fanny's death certificate to see who the informant was? This might tell you if Albert Leonard was around if not already dead himself or serving in WW1.

Well found, Daisy.

I wonder if the records for the son Roy's emigration to Canada in 1920 as a home child mention his father at all? It is possible to obtain the records, I understand.

Another good find! Worth following up. Also worth looking for Roy on the 1921 Canada census & bmds. If his descendants can be located & identified, they might have been told something about Arthur.

ADDED: In 1921 Roy is lodging with a Holder family on Dumfries South, Ontario address 'lot 10 con 3'; farm labourer aged 15.
