Whittle - England
« on: Saturday 25 June 11 10:59 BST (UK) »
Hello

Anyone researching the Whittle surname may be interested that I am thinking of starting a Whittle One Name Study and publish it online.
It's a fairly uncommon name, and the inspiration is hearing that "all Whittle's are related" from my grandmother as a young child - I don't hope to connect them all but perhaps organise the families a bit, with their descendants and earliest ancestors.

Anyone researching any Whittle's from England please contact me and I will take in your information for the eventual Study.

Thank you  :)

Hi,

Thanks. If you could tell me her name and where she was born, (if she's living by PM) please, I'll see if I have any info on her family. If not, I try and research the families that people are interested in.

Hi Steve,

Sorry for not getting back! Yes, they were very good for my search, all are.

I haven't got the website published yet but you can see some details here:

http://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/Whittle_(surname)?cb=1908 .

It's a bit of a mess at the moment but I hope to organise it more soon. Steve, your family is 'Family 2'.

Lancashire is the most common county to find the Whittle surname. Could I ask you if you know who James Whittle's parents were?

In the 1881 census I found two James Whittles born c1868 in Preston.
One is at 115 Bootle St with parents Charles & Sarah and siblings Robert, Sarah, Grace and John, who worked as cotton spinners/weavers.
The other is at 148 Ellen Street with parents Edward & Jane with siblings William, Margaret, Jane and Ann who were also in the cotton industry.

If you could tell me which family he belongs to, I can add more to your family.
Have PM'd you.

Best Wishes

Thank you Steve,

I will add that and expand the family, and try and get a bit further. So your James was the brother of Robert, Sarah, Grace and John in the 1881 census? That will be a good addition.
