Ah - thanks. This makes sense.

In 1881, incidentally, he was stationed at the District Royal Marine Barracks, Forton, Alverstoke, Hampshire. I'll try to piece some more about him together.

Hi
This may not be part of your family but Cheeseman is an unusual name.
Doing some checking for inputting to Ryerson Index today, in "Redland Times" on 19/08/2005 was death notice for a
CHEESEMAN, Grace Irene (Brookes) 21.11.1920-10.08.2005

Not clear whether Brookes is her Maiden name or a nickname and presumably if the former then not a direct rellie, but maybe another piece of the jigsaw.
(You won't find it on Ryerson as I haven't submitted it yet.) Unfortunately there was no mention of location, but the paper is a regional paper for an outer area of Brisbane on Moreton Bay.

Denys (France); Rossier/Rousseau (Switzerland); Montgomery (Antrim, IRL & North Sydney NSW);  Finn (Co.Carlow, IRL & NSW); Wilson (Leicestershire & NSW); Blue (Sydney NSW); Fisher & Barrago & Harrington(all Tipperary, IRL)
