Hello again Traci,

I had a dig through the Cambusnethan burial records, here's what I found.
All dates are of interment.

JAMES YOUNG, coalminer, Wishaw, aged 27 years, unmarried.
Parents - Gavin Young & Ann Forrest.
Interred in the old churchyard 10th September 1862.

JAMES YOUNG, weaver, Wishaw, aged 69 years, married.
Parents - Gavin Young & Sarah Balfour.
Old churchyard, 9th July 1869.

ANN PATON, housewife, Cambusnethan, aged 20 years, married.
Parents - Gavin Young & Ann Forrest.
Old churchyard, 17th June 1874.

ISABELLA YOUNG, schoolmistress, Wishaw, aged 34 years, unmarried.
Parents - John Young & Isabella Littlejohn.
Old churchyard, 20th November 1878.

ANN YOUNG, housewife, Wishaw, aged 72 years, married.
Mother - Ann Forrest.
Old churchyard, 29th March 1880.

MARTHA YOUNG, out-worker, Cambusnethan, aged 70 years, unmarried.
Parents - Gavin Young & Annie Forrest.
Old churchyard, 23rd March 1914.

MATTHEW YOUNG, Motherwell Poorhouse, aged about 4 years.
Mother - Martha Young.
Old churchyard, 9th August 1873.

ANN YOUNG, pauper, Cambusnethan, aged 2 years.
Mother - Martha Young.
Old churchyard, 9th July 1878.

The above 2 children may or may not be the children of "your" Martha but, that's for you to look into if you want.
I also found the plot details for Gavin Young & Ann Forrest.

Owners listed (in Victorian times) as "G.Y. & A.F."

In the centre lair are -
ANN YOUNG, aged 72 years. 29th March 1880.
GAVIN YOUNG, aged 79 years. 4th August 1885.
JAMES YOUNG, aged 2 years & 11 months. 4th May 1896.
In the north lair is -
MARTHA YOUNG, aged 70 years. 24th March 1914.

There doesn't seem to be a headstone at this plot. I have a sneaky feeling that this may originally have been a Littlejohn plot, do you have any information about this side of the family?

If you ever make it over to Wishaw let me know, I can at least show you where this plot is.
Stewart Town was a small village, almost a continuation of "Wishaw Town" (as it was called then) and it is now included in the modern-day town of Wishaw, it can easily be found, Stewarton Street is a main road in the town. Cambusnethan, as well as being the name of the civil parish, was also a small village about a mile from Wishaw Town. It is also part of the town now but still with an independent aspect about it.
An "out-worker" was someone, usually a female, who worked on the land. Farmers employed them to pick fruit, plant potatoes, turnips, clean-out pig stys (or should that be sties?). You get the picture. We sometimes called them "by-workers", people could be described as working "out by".
It sounds odd to say it nowadays. (and I'm only 27!)

Let me know if I can be of any more help.

The names of my relatives do not appear on your list. I wonder if there is any information on them in the burial records. They are:
James Lambie Baird  who died 18 Dec 1951 on E Thornlie St. Wishaw
His wife Catherine Jane Stewart who died 19 July 1951
Hugh Baird who died in 1900 in Wishaw and his wife Marion Stewart Baird who died 27 Jun 1890 on Caledonian Rd., Wishaw.
Thank you for your offer. You have helped many with their research.

Hi Nan,

The records I have finish at 1917, so I can't supply any information about the 1951 deaths, sorry.
This is what I did find, the burials are all in the "modern" Cambusnethan cemetery, not the old churchyard. As always, the dates are of interments.

STILLBORN MALE BAIRD. Wishaw.
Parents - Hugh Baird & Marion Stewart.
5th September 1882. Plot C185.

MARION BAIRD, housewife, Wishaw, aged 42 years, married.
Parents - Archibald Stewart & Jane Paterson.
30th June 1890, plot D86.

HUGH BAIRD, joiner, Wishaw, aged 44 years, widower.
Parents - Thomas Baird & Jeanie Lambie.
23rd January 1900, plot D85.

Hope this helps a little, the later burials may well be in D85 & 86.

Hi Judy,

The Brownlee, Russell, Thomson & Forrest was a large obelisk, now lying in pieces. From what I can gather, the inscription that is now face down on the 4th side should read -
"Robert Brownlie died 22nd August 1863. Margaret Brownlie died 28th July 1865. Jane Brownlie died 28th May 1867. W Brownlie died 6th January 1873 aged 4 1/2 years. Alexander John Brownlie M D died 10th August 1899 aged 27 years. Thomas Brownlie died 10th June 1914 aged 87 years. (His wife Agnes Thomson died 14th October 1911 aged 79 years). Elizabeth Russell Brownlie died 21st March 1939 aged 77 years. Agnes Thomson Brownlie widow of William Gladstone died 20th June 1929 aged 69 years (interred at Bo'ness Cemetery). Also Alexander, Agnes & William Brownlie".

I have attached 2 of the three pictures to this post. Another one to follow. And also the Brownlee & Russell one if I can find it.
