Hi Lodger,

I'm new to RootsChat so don't seem to be able to send pm yet.

Am interested in the details on the following headstones:

MUIR, HASTIE & CLEGHORN
SMELLIE & CLEGHORN

and

ROBB & GIBB

My great grandfather was James Cleghorn ROBB b. abt. 1887 (possibly in Bothwell).

His grandmother was Margaret CLEGHORN b. ?? in Cambusnethan, Margaret married Andrew ROBB in Bothwell on 3 Aug 1845.

Grateful for your help.

Best Regards,

Andy Smith

Hi Andy, here are the 2 pictures you requested.
The inscription on the Muir, Hastie & Cleghorn stone is -
"Erected by James Muir in memory of his wife Ann Hastie who died 9th July 1854 aged 57 years. Likewise Agnes Muir their daughter who died 7th July 1854 aged 19 years. Also James Cleghorn their grandson who died 26th January 1848 aged 5 years. And Agnes Watson their granddaughter who died 30th August 1851 aged 11 months. Christina Muir died 23rd October 1865 aged 18 months. Peter H Muir .............. aged 28 years". (Rest of stone is buried).

On the Smellie & Cleghorn stone -
"Erected by William Smellie junior in memory of his wife Marion Cleghorn who died 27th December 1840 aged 26 years".

There are a couple of entries in the burial registers which may interest you. Both entries are from the municipal cemetery records, not the old churchyard.

MARY S. FORSYTH, housewife, Wishaw, aged 42 years, married.
Parents - Andrew Robb & Margaret cleghorn.
Interred in plot D189 on 12th July 1900.

HIEBRAM R. CLEGHORN, Fashoda, Newmains, aged 9 years & 5 months.
Parents - Robert Cleghorn & Janet M. Robb.
Interred in plot B100 on 25th April 1916.
Plot owner - Robert Cleghorn, building contractor, Fashoda, Newmains.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Many thanks for the quick reply. Do you also have the details for the Robb & Gibb headstone?

Many thanks for the burial register entries, the first of which is definately a direct link for me.

Do you have any clue what Fashoud refers to in the second burial register entry that you provided?

Best regards,

Andy

They are there on the 1901 census

Thanks Sancti.

Do you have a connection with the Cleghorns?
