Hudson
« on: Tuesday 28 June 11 16:38 BST (UK) »
Could some one have a look at the 1841 census Thomas Hudson b1826 he is lodging with Ann Rote in Tynemouth,
And tell me if there is anyway I can find out any more info on this Thomas ?,
My GGgrandfather was Thomas Hudson c1828 a miner who married Mary Urwin in 1848 in Pelton, Co Durham.
She was from Newcastle and on all the census after they were married so was he except the 1851 were they have him down as born  Cosbsle Cumberland, which must be Carlisle.
I have there marriage certificate and his father was William and he was a miner, I have most of the info on him after he married but can't find him for definite before 1848,
If anyone has any idea how I can find his family I would be most grateful.

Thanks Alan...

It It doesn't look like this Thomas was lodging with Ann Rote -as i don't think she is head of the household

If you take another look at the census you will see that Samuel Meare?(Mease?) seems to be head age 40 wife Mary A,6 children , then there is a single mark and Ann Rote , the female servants and Thomas
then double mark -which signifies end of household

The single mark means they were living in the same dwelling as Samuel Meare? and family -but were not living as part of the family

Just to eliminate,  There is a Thomas Hudson who gives his place of birth as Carlisle on most census bn c1833 living Portsea. He is not yours as already in Portsea in 1841 parents Thomas and Eleanor.

Don't know if this will help - but if I am following the correct Thomas and Mary - you posted their p.o.b. on all census after marriage (except 1851) is Newcastle??
I read p.o.b. as the following

1851
Thomas b Carlisle Cumberland (it reads this on image)
Mary p.o.b. Benwell Northumberland
1861
Thomas p.o.b. Newcastle Upon Tyne
Mary p.o.b. Benwell
1871
Thomas p.o.b. benwell
Mary p.o.b. benwell
81
Thomas p.o.b. Newcastle
Mary p.o.b. Benwell
1891
Thomas p.o.b. Elswick
Mary p.o.b. Benwell

On the marriage cert who are the witnesses?? Might they be related to Thomas?? thus giving further clues?

Thanks
I have had a look at the marriage cert the witnesses are THOMAS CARTER and ISSAC SMITH
There is a Thomas Carter living in Pelton in 1951 and he is a Draper.
And Issac Smith is the School Master.

I think its a mistake to disregard the Portsea Thomas Hudson. His parents were both born around Newcastle. Her name was Ellen/Eleanor Daly. I am researching the Daly's and have come across Carr's Lee's in my search.
