Burstock & Broadwinsor - CASE family burials
« on: Wednesday 29 June 11 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to unravel the family of Mary Case who married John Benfield of Swanage at Broadwinsor in 1766.

Her baptism took place at Burstock as the son of John Case but no mother's name.

A sister Molly was baptised in Burstock in 1753 but I think this could be the daughter of the marriage of John Case and Susannah Davy who married in Burstock in 1752.

Then there is another Molly Case baptised in Broadwinsor in 1766 who was the daughter of John Case and Charity Davy who married Burstock in 1759.

My Mary Case/Benfield who was born in Burstock married as Broadwinsor so moved parishes, presumably with her father.

I therefore rather think that her father could have married three times; Once to her mother (name unknown), then to Susannah Davy in 1752, followed by Charity Davy in 1759.

If anyone please has access to the burials of the parishes of Burstock and Broadwinsor to see if information there on the Case family might help this theory I would be most grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks,
Jon

Hi,

Not sure if this helps but the John Case who married Charity Davy in 1759 is shown as a butcher.  The witnesses were John DAVEY and Betty Fowler.

Some Burstock burials:
John Case      23 Sept 1785
Mary Case      29 Jan   1782
Mary Case       11 July   1788

William Case (of Broadwinsor)  4 Oct 1702
Joseph Case      22 Jan 1734
Alice Case         28  Feb  1744
Joseph Case      24  July 1768

Thanks very much for this indeed.

it now seems that the Case family moved between the parishes of Burstock, Broadminster and also Seaborough so it proving a little tricky to get to the bottom of them.

The difficulty is increased as my Mary Case born in 1746 has no mother's name on the baptism.

Because of this I don't think it's going to be possible - with an certainty at least - to go back any further with this line, but we shall see.

Thanks again,
Jon

Hi,

I have transcribed some Dorset PRs and the early baptism registers only give the name of the father.  The Burstock burials give no indication of age or relationships so difficult to work out if they are all one family.

Have you looked for any records on the Dorset OPC site?

Hi all, I am still on the hunt for the mysterious origins of John Case.

I have looked at the signatures on the 1759 marriage of John Case to Charity Davy and also the John case signature as witness to the 1766 marriage of his daughter Mary Case to John Benfield and they might be the same person.

Does anyone please know of any other records of Burstock, Broadminster and Seaborough which might help me get to the bottom of this issue?!

Thanks,
Jon
