McNICKLE Of Wagga Wagga
« on: Wednesday 12 January 11 23:00 GMT (UK) »
I know that my gradnfather Harold McNickle was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW. I think his grandfather was John James McNickle, who became a magistrate in Wagga Wagga in 1898.

I can't connect the dot as to which offspring of John James McNickle was Harold McNickle's father. Harold was born in 1910.

Also, I believe the McNickles arrived in Wagga Wagga from Picton, NSW in 1865. I would like to trace the family history further back than that, find out if John James McNickle was born in Ireland, and if so, where. Also when he migrated to Australia.

I venture to say the the father of Harold McNickle may be James Andrew McNickle, born in 1885. I say this because that would put him at 25 years old when my grandfather was born, and 43 when my grandfather's mother was killed by lightning in 1928.

A possible timeline is that the McNickles arrive in Picton from? County Tyrone? Year?
Travel to Wagga Wagga, 1865.
James Andrew McNickle born, 1885.
John James McNickle becomes magistrate in Wagga Wagga, 1898.
William John James Harold McNickle born, 1910.

Hi McNickle :)

You will need to purchase a birth certificate in order to prove parentage of Harold.  The birth certificate will give you his parents' names.  You can then track down their marriage certificate, which will give you the names of both sets of grandparents, and so forth.

You can search for NSW certificates, and purchase online, at:
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm

Once you have some dates and names you can start searching further back for the origins and movements of the family.

Hope that helps

Cheers
Prue

MCNICKLE Daniel F W
SMYTH Amy E A

Death - bearing in mind that the information on death certs is only as good as the knowledge of the informant...the mother's name is correct, well should be Amy but the father should be Daniel F W...does the W stand for William?

Perhaps this is Harold's father Daniel F W who is detailed as William on his [Harold's] death certificate.
