8 Grant St, Nairn
« on: Saturday 09 July 11 23:27 BST (UK) »
My late mother-in-law was one of 16 children .Her parents Alexander and Cath McIntosh and most of their family went to Canada in the 1920s but Lil and her sister Kate/Catherine  stayed behind as they were to be married .

Mary Ann LILLIAS McIntosh did marry from 8 Grant Street, Nairn.I am trying to find her sister Catherine McIntosh b 1888 and believe it may have been from Kate's address Lil was married. Kate was a large lady married to a gentleman of smaller stature but nobody remembers the surname. He may have been called Walter but that is just a hopeful memory .

Family members remember they did live in Nairn and I thought  6 Commercial Street was mentioned. Without her married surname I am stumped for any records.

Their sister Jessie and her husband Jim Acton from Quebec visited Lil and her husband Jim MacLeod in Inverness in 1973 .

Any help appreciated.

Frances.

Hi

Have you checked Scotlands People for her marriage?

Yes,Carole but without a surname for husband there was no joy. I have tried familysearch too without success which surprised me. Then I tried  for a death but again nothing without knowing for sure where and when.
Stumped. Hoping some Nairn local may remember her or even relations in Canada.

As you know her parents names - will that not help to narrow down her marriage?  Scottish marriage certs show parents names

Is she still single on the 1911 census by which time she was 23.  If she cannot be found in 1911 - her marriage may have been between approx 1906-1911

A basic search on SP shows no Catherine McIntosh marriage in Nairn between 1906 and 1911 but one match only between 1911-1915 which was in 1913

It may be worth looking at that 1913 marriage to see if her parents details match

You have done it again, Rootschat ! I don't know how I missed that year.Kate was so much older than Lil who did not marry until 1929.
Many thanks,Carole.
