Jeremiah Daly

Hi!

Looking for any records of a Jeremiah Daly or Peter Daly who owned Daly Brothers linen manufacturing in Cork probably about 1800.  I have know idea of the parish but Jeremiah Daly's son Daniel Daly (1795) immigrated to Boston about 1812.  Peter Daly is supposed to have built a chapel or church for his local parish and Daniel Daly has started to study to be a priest before he got in trouble with wine and women.  The family had also be involved in wool combing.

Thanks, Jane

Wine and women?!?  Sounds like an exciting family history!  :D

There were some Dalys in Cork in linen and lace-related directories listed in an 1810 directory.  A transcription of it is here (which I am curating, and know nothing about):

http://www.corkgen.org/publicgenealogy/cork/potpourri/corkancestors.com/1810directory.htm

James Daly, linen draper is also listed in

http://www.corkgen.org/publicgenealogy/cork/potpourri/corkancestors.com/1809Corkcitypipewater.htm

and a Mr. Carol Daly, also in the linen business, is mentioned in

http://www.corkgen.org/publicgenealogy/cork/potpourri/corkancestors.com/1750sCorkcity.htm

I have not finished salvaging all the pages of this old website.  One that I have not yet dusted off mentions a John Daly, woolen draper, 1 Saint Patrick St. in an 1846 Cork directory.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing the will abstract information an interesting find and it's possible it could be an uncle of Jeremiah Daly.   It will give me some new names to try and make a connection.

Thank you Rathmore for the information I've been going through it and see some that might give me more connections.  I spent a lot of time going through the old Cork directories and did my DNA on Ancestry hoping for a few hits and it looks like the Daly linen drapers from Main Street South at that time are my best bet.  Lot's of new information on line the past while so it's good to get access and some assistance.
