Campbells/Burnetts in N.I
« on: Monday 18 July 11 19:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my family in Northern Ireland
My great grandmother was Matilda Campbell who was 24 in 1911 and lived on Nassau Street, her parents were William Campbell and Jane (Easter?) I think they lived in Nassau Street and Charlotte Street.

My great grandfather was James Burnett who I believe came from Donegal before moving to Londonderry were my grandmother was born on Nassau Street

As there is no records available after 1901 I would really appreciate any help to continue with my search

Here's the Campbell family in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/No__2_Urban__South_Ward/Charlotte_Street/1535960
In 1911 they are in Rosemount Terrace-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_Urban__1_/Rosemount_Terrace/601661

If you are trying to trace the family forward online it will be difficult since the online civil registration index only goes up to 1921, latest available census is 1901 and few church records are online.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi thanks for the information, I realised I worded things a little wrong in my post, I meant to say that I could not go any further back to before 1901.

 :)

That's okay- going back before 1901 probably will be easier  :)

I hoped it would be but it seems all records were destroyed by fire for the cenuses of 1861 to 1891  :(

Hi,
Census records may have been destroyed but civil and church records remain. 23 Dec 1907 James Burnett married Matilda Campbell in Claremont Presbyterian Church, City of Londonderry.

Hi,
Very few church records are on-line but most are available on microfilm in the Public Record Office in Belfast. Civil records are on-line on the Familysearch Beta site.

Here are James Burnett and family in 1911 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_Urban__1_/Nassau_Street_Lower/601287

Think this is James in 1901 with his family- note father named Andrew and in 1911 James' infant son was also called Andrew (marriage record would confirm father's name and occupation)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Redcastle/Drung_continued/1186235
In 1911 Catherine Burnett is head of household- 2 of the children at home along with a grandson and two nephews-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Redcastle/Drung/496363

From LDS database www.familysearch.org:
Andrew Burnett death Jan./Mar.1911 (age 73) Inishowen registration district, volume 2 page 93.
Isabella Burnett born 1 May 1875 Fermanagh (Andy Burnett and Catharine Harbison)
William Harbison Burnett born 10 Mar.1878 Donegal (mother Catherine Harbison)
Robert Burnett born 14 Nov.1880 Drung, Co. Donegal (parents Andrew Burnett and Cathrine Halieson)- Halieson is probably a mistransription of Harbison

Another possible child from LDS database-
Henry Burnett born 31 Mar.1873 Co,Donegal (parents Andrew Burnett & Cathrine Herbertson)
