Brow Farm, Newmains, Cambusnethan
« on: Sunday 01 May 05 21:24 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know if Brow Farm, Newmains, Cambusnethan still exists?  My Frame ancestors had the farm until at least 1901.  Any info would be appreciated.  Many thanks.

I have searched Bt directory enquiries and for postcodes etc in the Cambusnethan/Newmains area and can't find one for Brow Farm, have you got the right name? I live one mile from Newmains in the Cambusnethan parish and haven't heard of it. Sorry...

Hi

I did a google on 'brow farm +newmains' and got a number of hits:

There's a number of listings for brow farm, newmains, wishaw ML2 9PJ.  I looked at the Multimap site using the postcode and it is shown, however, you will need to view a more suitable small scale map to view it properly.

The google search also brought up something interesting for you given your interest in the name Frame:

Morningside & Chapel Roll of Honour
... Forsyth, Robt., 3 Lady’s Row Morningside, Scot. H. M, 1, Frame, George, Brow
Farm, RFA, S, D, Frame, John, Brow Farm, Scot. Rifles, S, ...

I've tried the URL but it's not coming up, but something for you to follow up if you didn't have this already!

Regards.

Hi there,

I currently live in the farm and have been here since 2000.  I would be grateful for any information you have on the farm.  The person who owned the farm before me was John Colquoun.  John is probably in his 70's and I think would have been at the farm for 30-40 years, not sure who had it before John.

Hope this helps.

A

Hi John,

Can I just check the dates you said 1895-1903 that's quite a short time??

Do you have any other info that might be useful??

Thanks,

Audra

Hi AJMAC

Just checked my info again.  My great grandfather John Frame born 1830 at Parkhead in Hamilton married a Margaret Glen Dunn born 1851 Cambuslang.  He died 1903 at Brow Farm, Newmains, Cambusnethan, and she died 1901 at same place.  This was JF second wife who had 10 chidlren as first wife just after giving birth to the last of 6 children.  I know for definite his son John Frame (my grandfather) was born 1895 at the farm, all the rest seem to have been born in Hamilton or Shotts prior to that.  JF born 1830 was a corn feeder previous to farming.  Have not found out any more history of where they were apart from the census info and details from relatives.  JF born 1895 was a dairy retailer and he met my grandmother Margaret McKechnie Forsyth born 1900 at Batton Farm (or Easter Batton Farm), Harthill (which I think is not far away from Brow Farm.  Also Stanebent farm comes into it somewhere as my mother used to visit relatives on these farms.  My grandmother was also a dairy retailer and she met my grandfather in the centre of Shotts when they were delivering on the milk rounds.  Parkhead dairy was at 93 Low Waters Road Hamilton where my mother was born.  It was designed by another of my ancestor line.  If you manage to find any more info I would be very interested.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers
