Hi Judith,

I think there were 2 men named Thomas Cross in the asylum
around the same time.
I had looked at the Administration papers you mentioned, and as
you said, just didn't seem to fit.
My Thomas escaped from the asylum in August 1885 and was recaptured
the next month.  From what I can see on the patient  details, he "recovered"
in 1886.  I'm checking to see if I can narrow down some prospects for his death.

Thanks again for the help

Raylen  :D

In this death that Debra found, it gives

Has anyone got any ideas what this might mean or where it is please?

Thanks

Yes Judith  :o it seems he walked 150 miles to his brothers house
where he was recaptured.  Pretty good effort I reckon!

I have the opposite problem with this side of the family.
They ADD second names, use their middle name as their
first or, as seen above, change their surnames  :-\

Hi
Mary Ann Cross born Melb 1842, mother Harriet Cross, father unknown, reg no 12768.

That should give Harriet's place of birth and age, I would also get the 1883 Bunting Burns marriage as it should give details of her previous children and if she was a widow.

Thanks mum mum

I should have linked a previous topic on Harriet
where we have discounted this birth and another
for John William with mother Harriet and father unknown.

Hi
I thought the other births you had were 1841 and 1844. This birth is for Mary Ann, not Mary J, wrong name I know but funnier things have happened. Mary Jane's marriages say that she was born in Melbourne. Do you have her marriage certificates? How did you rule out those births?

I followed both John William and Mary Ann Cross
with mother as Harriet and found that their
surname was in fact Mercer. Father's name was William.
So at this stage I have discounted them............ but ........
never say never  ;D
(Still keep them on the back burner if all else fails)

Just to add fuel to the fire, here is a death:
Harriet MUNRO
Age: 40
Father: Richard CROSS
Mother: Ann Unknown
Reg Year: 1858
Reg Number: 6695
Debra  :D

I purchased the certificate and indeed it has added fuel to the fire  ::)

Name: Harriet MUNRO wife of a labourer  Age: 40 years
Date and place of Death: 3/8/1858  Tarcombe Station, Longwood
Cause of Death: Child Birth  Parents: Richard Cross and Ann Cross Labourers
Informant: Henry Arthur MUNRO
Buried: Tarcombe Station,Longwood
Born: Dodbrook, England   How long in the colonies: 18 years in Victoria
Married to Henry Arthur Munro in Melbourne age 24 years
Children: Mary Jane 18, John William 14,Arthur 10,Henry 7,Ann 5, Catherine 18months.

Longwood is the area my Cross family were from, so that was a positive.
Could Mary Jane and John William be MY Cross brother and sister.
John born c 1844 and Mary Jane born c 1841.

Have looked for Harriet's birth and marriage - no success.

I tried to follow the children through and didn't get too far  :-\
There is a death for Henry Arthur Munroe 1859 10 years F: Henry Arthur M: None named.
Henry and Arthur MONRO are both registered in Victoria 1850 F: Henry Arthur M: Harriet
I can find nothing else on any of the other children.

Henry Arthur MUNRO married Mary GILBERT 1862
Maybe a coincidence but my Mary Jane CROSS stopped using the name MUNRO
after 1861 and began using the name CROSS as her maiden name instead.
Can't find anything further on Henry Arthur Munro or Mary Gilbert either.

If anyone feels like a challenge I'd love to see anything you find. ideas, thoughts
or wildly imaginative scenarios. All would be greatly appreciated  ;D

Thanks
Raylen
