Does Coatgill exist? ** Completed
« on: Monday 25 July 11 19:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,

After Gaisgill in the attached, can any one tell what the next entry is? I see Coatgill but Google Maps can not find it. This is an 1871 census, I can not find them in 1881. Can any one please offer a suggestion where it may be or what the correct name is.

Thanks

Geoff

Hi,

Found this just by a Google search; lots of other references.

COATFLATT and COATGILL, two hamlets in Orton parish, Westmoreland; near Orton.

Hi nanny jan,

Thanks for that. Google Maps lets me down again. A parish in Orton makes perfect sense.

Thanks again.

Hi fellsman,

Thanks for that. They were farmers, and I have them in Gaisgill and Orton.  Am off to get an Ordinance Survey map of the area.

Cheers

Geoff

It's just to the right of the arrow in this map

You can see Gaisgill top left.

Thanks JenB,

I definitely need a OS map.  Ashamed to admit it, but my knowledge of this area is very slim.   :-[
