1927 census of Blockley Worcestershire
« on: Wednesday 27 July 11 09:56 BST (UK) »
on this census my ggggrandparents were recorded as having 3 NR (non resident children)  I know that one of them was only 3yrs old at that time. Could anyone tell me where they might have lived.  It was common on the census.

Thanks

Great-great-great-grandparents in 1927?! I don't think so! ;D

There was no census in 1827, either! ???

I can see a Blockley in Gloucestershire that had a Reverend's census in 1827.Perhaps this is the one Greli is referring to as the NR for non resident children is used on it.

I'm not sure that jumping down people's throats for a simple typing error is terribly helpful. Certainly it is not very welcoming.

There was an 1827 "census" by the local vicar I think.

I'm not sure where the children would be. Perhaps with grandparents? Toddlers were sometimes sent off to relatives if a new baby was due. Or if the parents were struggling, prehaps both working so hard that they were unable to care for the children. I've seen lots of children recorded in the later censuses as "nurse child" which means that they were being cared for (for payment probably).

PS And I wonder if some of the "children" down as non-resident had simply moved out? Working as servants or something? Maybe the the bulk of the NR children were quite old?

NR surely means that they were older children of the family who were no longer living at home
Nobody "was jumping down your throat" We all want to help but how many people were aware there was an unofficial census in 1827  :) :)
