My wife is a descendant of Robert Skelton b. 1839, Carlisle, Cumberland, England and his son Albert. Albert's daughter, Ruby was my wife's grandmother.
I know a descendant of William. He lives near us.

The William to whom I refer was a son of Robert and Albert's brother.

There are a lot with the name Skelton in Cumberland. My William's parents were Henry & Martha. Robert & Ruby are also family names. I am in contact with William's grandaughter who lives in Helena.

Dear Woodlea and Sandra,
I believe the John Gate and Martha Skelton that you mention are members of my family. My great grandmother being Violet Jane Gate. Her father was William Skelton Gate, I think he was John and Martha's child, all from Wigton. Both John Gate and William Skelton Gate were Wine and Spirits Merchants, with William's wife Jane (nee Sheffield) running a pub called The Codrington in Kensington Park Road, London. I'm eager to trace any information on Violet's second husband George Herbert Batley, my great grandfather. They married in Kensington in 1905 and moved to Leicester in 1906 where my grandfather William Pearson Batley was born in 1906. Any help from the link you have with the Skelton side would be greatly appreciated, ie whoever gave you the info about John and Martha.
Many thanks

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat

It doesn't look as if Woodlea has been online since November 2014 - perhaps the notifications could be turned off. Will send her a pm to let her know of your post.

Regards
Sandra
