problem is this john redmond is known to me. he died during the 50s and is buried in rathangan.
However there is a john redmond died in france in 1914 and his place of birth is listed as duncormick. probably the same year as the known john redmond. any help would be great thanks

Possible record from CWGC-
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=325363

Is this the John Redmond died 1914 that you are searching for?

If the two census recoerds I posted earlier are for the John Redmond died 1950s it's possible the one died 1914 was born in Duncormick but living elsewhre in 1901 and 1911.

Where did you get the information that the 1914 soldier was born in Duncormick?

firstly Pte john Redmond number 4422 died on 28 oct 1914. I have established that he most lightly died of wounds after his regiment the 2nd Bn royal irish regiment were very badly hammered by the german advance in a village callad le pilly on 19/20 oct 1914. From the position of his grave it would seem to located where the germans had a dressing station for pows. Many soldiers from wexford kilkenny and waterford were in this unit and most probably had militia service and in the case of wexford would have been part of the 3rd special reserve bn royal irish regiment.
I know that that the  John redmond in the census is not the john redmond who died in 1914 however it seems that both were born in duncormick.
Pte john redmond lists duncormick as his place of birth on his enlistment forms. I am a descendant of john redmond Died 1950s and was astounded to find another john redmond who deployed to france at the start of the war and am trying to establish if he is a relative of mine
thanks,

if his year of birth is accurate, then there not that many potential matches (four) on the BMD Index for John's birth :

   See : John Redmond births
        Wexford (town) registration district, 1895-1897

Birth certs would show the full details..

The references on the BMD index above relate to the National Index as held by GRO head office (Roscommon) and the research room in Dublin.  Historic certs may be available in a local Wexford registration office - you can check contact details for the various local offices on the HSE website : BMD Registration offices
