Gabriel Douglas of Muirkirk

Gabriel Douglas 1822 Muirkirk- Watchman and Goldman - married (1) Agnes Hogg in 1845 at Glasgow, (2) Mary Ann Ryan in 1881 at Gore Street, Fitzroy and (3) Isabella Nicol Stalley at Trinity Church, Port Melbourne in 1887.
Puzzle - Isabella had been married to a Stalley (perhaps Henry Francis Stalley) and was a Widow. It is stated  that her father was 'Martin Mawson? from Newport, Victoria' - however her parents are described as John Thomson 'Master Mariner' and Margaret Nicol. Isabella had two children by the name of Stalley (Stally) in 1887.
Any clues please?

It appears that the 4th wife of Gabriel Douglas in 1893 (Vic 5423) was Mary Charlton (nee McConnell) from County Tyrone

Mary Charlton from County Tyrone - she had married and became McConnell and was Widowed when she married Gabriel Douglas (Correction)

I was right after all - she was Mary McConnell and migrated to Victoria in February 1860 age 24 on the 'Prince of the Seas' with her sister Elizabeth age 20. So Mary McConnell from Tyrone

Ref your query 11/08/11 re Isabella Stalley. Isabella had been married to Thomas Stalley, who died in 1883 - they had two children. As you know Gabriel married Isabella 1887. On marriage certificate Gabriel and Mary McConnell 1893 there is no mention of previous marriage to Isabella. I cannot locate any death or divorce re Isabella in the intervening period..so a mystery as to what happened to her. Also, a mystery about Isabella's child Alexander St Elmo born and died 1886 - Isabella registered the birth and identified the father as Thomas Stalley despite him having died 1883. PS may be inconsequential but the Gabriel Isabella marriage took place in a registry office on a weekday, possibly quietly from the family, and when Gabriel's son registered his death there is no mention of Isabella. I am decendant of Gabriel and George b 1862.
