« on: Sunday 14 August 11 20:12 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
Just a quick query wondering if anyone can help with any information on Emily Esther Kirkham and her husband William Glover Bunce.
Emily Esther Kirkham was born Arley,Worcestershire around 1881 and emigrated in around 1911, and settled at Nanoose Bay.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

https://www.familysearch.org/

has  British Columbia death registrations for both of them.

A free search of the 1911 census shows Emily Esther Bunce aged 29 in Martley, Worcestershire.  William does not appear to be with her.

An Emily E Bunce born c1882 travelled from England to Quebec in 1913 (a free search of findmypast shows this)  Again, William does not seem to be with her.

William Glover Bunce arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Scotian on 3 Apr 1911. Here's the passenger list (line 7):
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e148/e003686880.jpg

There is a William Bunce on the 1911 Canada census in Vancouver, BC. He's listed as being born in Aug 1873 in England and has an immigration year of 1911. Here's a link to the transcription and image at the automated genealogy website:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=63424

Here's a copy of the Canadian passenger list with Emily E. Bunt. It appears she arrived in Quebec on the Virginian on 15 May 1913. She's on the second last line:

The person listed above Emily on the passenger list was named Edwin Kirkham (19). He was also going to Nanoose Bay, BC.

There is a BC death registration for Edwin Kirkham at the Family Search site as well. It indicates he was born 31 Jan 1894 in Birmingham, England to William Kirkham and Esther Allen. He died 4 May 1973 in Vancouver. His spouse's name was Amelia Marsh. There is also a marriage registration for Edwin Kirkham who married Millie Amelia Marsh on 19 Apr 1919 in Victoria, BC.

In case you're interested, there are some family trees at Ancestry for the family of William Kirkham and Esther Allen. Besides Emily and Edwin, it also appears another child, Bertha, emigrated to Canada as well. There is a BC marriage registration for Bertha Kirkham marrying Benjamin Lovell on 22 Sep 1925 in Victoria, BC. A BC death registration indicates Bertha was born 11 Apr 1888 in Arley, England and died 23 Jul 1970 in Nanaimo, BC.

Bertha arrived in Quebec on the Metagama on 12 Aug 1919. Here's a link to the passenger list (line 22):
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e145/e003605990.jpg
Looks like there may have been some heartbreak for Bertha. The passenger list has a stamp on her entry that indicates she was to be married and then "to J. Johnston" is written next to it.

That's marvellous.a huge thank you to everyone...this is an amazing story really. :) :) This family came from a very poor background, yet had the bravery to leave their families and emigrate.  :)
