Duncan, Gardner, Martin of Bathgate
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 20:02 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on William Duncan who was married to Margaret Gardner. They had two sons that i know of.

James was born in Bathgate but the family originated in Lanarkshire James Duncan married a Janet Donaldson and in 1877- ? they lived at Accademy Row Bathgate. James Duncan was a coal miner and died @ 1913 in Bathgate.

William Duncan 1855-1916 (my G G Grandfather) was the other son.

William Duncan snr must have died young. Margaret Gardner marrioed a William Martin in the 1870's and lived also at Accademy Row Bathgate.
James Duncan lived with the Martin family prior to marrying Janet Donaldson.

Any info on these families would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Do you have a copy of William Duncan's death cert as it will give details of his parents names and mothers maiden name

A copy of Margaret Duncan's second marriage cert will give you her parents names and mothers maiden name

You say that William Duncan your GG Grandfather was born 1855 - are you sure?

Yes, James Duncan son of William Duncan & Margaret Gardner
is my Great Grandfather William Duncans brother.

Margaret Gardner remarried (Martin) in the 1870's, so her Husband William Duncan must have died. I did find a death of a William Duncan that happened due to shock after a Coal Mining accident at a Pit in Bathgate, which could be him?
