Yes I think postillion is a great word from the past!

I have been looking again at Joseph's military service and see that he transferred from the 48th foot to the 86th foot in 1859 until 1863.

Looks like your Thomas went to Australia after he was unfit for further service then.

Their descriptions are very similar apart from a difference in height.

Its been some while since posting re the Hopkins family and I am afraid there seems to have been a bit of a communication delay at my end.

My cousin now tells me that the Hopkins descendant we are in touch with would like to swop information with you if you are interested in doing so.

Most interested in this thread.   Is anyone considering DNA testing to see if there is a connection to the Hopkins of Wicklow?
