1887 Passenger Lists for USA
« on: Monday 22 August 11 15:16 BST (UK) »
1887 Passenger Lists to USA - trying to find Mary McKenna, born Garnkirk Scotland in 1871 and emigrated to USA in 1887.  She married Frank McDole in Illinois and is shown on 1900 Census in Illinois.  Trying to find out when she went to US, where she went to and if she travelled with anyone.

Hello,
Just a quick look
I see her in an Ancestry tree named "Viereck Family Tree" being worked on my T Viereck

and on that tree she has your Mary coming over on the Majestic April 12, 1894
(on passenger list as waitress age 23, travelling with Annie McKenna cook age 26)

I'll go look some more now, but that should get you started.

Hello again,
There is also a tree made by CarolGordon18 with photographs !
It's called the "McDole-McKenna Family Tree"

That tree lists the death date as September 10, 1950 Illinois, but I see the date elsewhere
also as November 12, 1950 Illinois.  She won't be on the Social Security Death Index; dates are too early for that.

If I have the correct peson, I see her on the 1920 US Census, just her and Frank living in Saline, Harrisburg, Illinois, District 124.

thank you for your messages.  I have been in touch with both tree holders from Ancestry and there is a connection.  However, I am not certain the arrival date is correct at the 1900 Census shows Mary arriving in 1887, hence my request for passenger lists in that year.  I dont have any resource to check and have not found anything on Ellis Island etc.

Ellis Island would be too late (starts 1892) - you'd need to check Castle Garden if she came via NY, or other sites if she came via another port - several on the east coast (e.g. Boston is another possiblity) or she could have come via Canada.

Do you know when she married?
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marriage.html
doesn't show a McDole/McKenna marriage but does have a marriage in 1888 for Mary McKenna to Francis McDowell.

thanks Jorose, this is probably their marriage.  I'm new to this aspect of family history.  Is there online information on the garden city, boston sites?

Castle Garden is online at www.castlegarden.org but be aware that early manifests contain little details (usually name, age, occupation, country of origin).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
