Hi,

I can only see one birth of a Caroline White in Brighton but it is 1855.  What makes you think your Caroline was born there in 1860?  Do you have any other information like parents' names or siblings?

At first glance I can't see any reason why the Nuthurst / Horsham Whites should be linked to Brighton.  George has a daughter Elizabeth Caroline born in 1861 but in Hosham ???

Hi,

I'm guessing you've seen her marriage register entry?  If it is correct she was 41 in 1899, so probable birth 1858 and her father was George.  It gives her father's occupation as a Carman and in the 1871 census that is what George White was so I would guess that Elizabeth Caroline White, his daughter, was indeed the person who married William Cordery.

But I am not sure about how Brighton fits in?!

Ahh!  In the 1851 census the family lived in Pyecombe which is just north of Brighton.  Maybe they were still living there in 1858 when Elizabeth Caroline was born and then immediately moved to Horsham and so she thought she had been born there??

HTH  ;D

Hi,

I have had a look at Caroline's brothers and neither of them appear to have a son called William.  I agree he is almost certainly a relative, maybe a cousin or nephew but perhaps a bit more distant.

Good luck in your hunt!  ;D

Hi,

Unless it was a middle name? My mother said it was her uncle. I couldn't find a connection either though.

Regards
