Hello Lucas  :)

Welcome to Rootschat!

I'm not sure whether you know about the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website. You may find info about your relative on there?

http://www.cwgc.org/

Kindest Regards
Morgan

Hi Morgan, thanks for your reply. Yes, I  was very pleased to find his grave location on CWGC website.  J T Young served with the Royal Sussex but moved to The Gnoll, Neath some time after 1911. I wondered if he is listed on the gates?
Thank you.
Kind regards
Lucas

I'll have a look over the next few days, Lucas. I'll photograph it if he's on there.

I'm afraid he's not on there. No men from the Royal Sussex and no Young's anywhere that I could see.

Remember that only those whose families 'applied' to the council ended up on the gates. If he was actually born elsewhere it is possible that his family there have remembered him on a local memorial.

You'll see that the originator of this thread is researching all the men from Neath who lost their lives and he will be interested in your man; why not PM him in case he's missed these latest posts?

Dear Bernard,
Thank you so much for taking the time to take a look. I genuinely appreciate you doing so.
I have looked on the local memorials (with one exception). I shall , however, take a look at the remaining one later this weekend. Fingers crossed.
I also took a day out on Tuesday and visited West Sussex Records Office, which had so much info but it will take more than the few hours that I could spare to dig out relevant facts. (I must add, the staff were incredibly helpful).
I shall take your advice and see if I can PM Jon.
thanks again....
Kind regards
Lucas

Dear Bernard, I have thank you...that's how I found out about the Neath connection. My next plan is to find out how and where JT met his wife Florence H Weaver (from Neath).
Kind regards
Lucas

Jon, anyone else, I am trying to locate where my great great uncle is commemorated and I am hoping he is one of the 700 noted on the gates. Can anyone show me where online I can see the 700 names of the fallen please? thank you...Lucas

Hi Lucas,

First of all, many apologies for the delay in replying.  Been away, but firmly back and working hard on the project.  Could you let me know any details you have on your GG Uncle and I'll give you everything I have on him.  I'm unearthing some wonderful material and there could well be something for you...

Best wishes

Jon
