Hi all,what can you do if your gregregran  completly disapears no trace on 1871 census no marriage that seems to fit no death children turn up in 1881 census living with gregregregran under different name but girls marry under own name? anyone maybe some genius out there would like a challenge,tobyma123.

Is Dowley her married or maiden name?

Was she Ann Casewell (marrying Samuel Dowley in 1857, Wellington?)

so, are we looking for Dowley kids with a Grandmother Casewell?

ah, just seen your notes on Ancestry. The Grandmother is surnamed Buttery, born in India 

OK, Gran Elizabeth (born India) is with a Thomas Buttery in 1871. They married in 1864 - her previous name was Moore.

Also in the 1871 Household is an Edward Dudley and Wife Elizabeth - noted as daughter of Elizabeth Buttery. The only likely marriage of an Edward Dudley is to an Elizabeth Moore, so that all fits.

Back in 1861, the older Elizabeth (born India) is married / with a Samuel Moore and in the household is an Ann Dowsdely c1839 'daughter', married, another unmarried daughter Martha Caswell c1845 and a 7 year old daughter Elizabeth Moore.

It looks like Samuel married Elizabeth Casewell in Wellington in 1846.

Hi TomR, yes you have it in a nutshell Ann's mother was myregregregran Elizebeth Anslow-Casewell married three times,Sam Moore 1846,Thomas Buttery married in 1864,Dowdeley is wrong on census should read Dowley Ann and Sam married in 1857 he died in 1867,Martha is Ann's full sister Elizebeth Dudley married name is Ann''s half sister maiden name Moore.Ann's married name is Dowley.So did Ann live with a Dudley related to Edward and not marry unusual in those days or did Ann have some sort of breakdown her hubby Sam was only 27 when he died very young,did Elizebeth Dudley take over the care of children? are you a genius (laugh out loud) can you solve the problem i have been working on this for about 18months no result where would you look next ,there is an Ann Dudley in Whitchurch Workhouse but older and birth place is different? any help would be gratefully received regards tobyma123.

sorry, couldnt get anywhere in the 1871 census with Ann or her children who show up in 1881 !
