1861 & 1871 census Mary Jones, Usk
« on: Wednesday 04 May 05 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am looking for Mary Jane JONES & her family in Usk. In 1871 she would have been about 10/11 years old, or perhaps she might appear on the 1861 as an infant . Unfortunately, I don't know any other family names. Mary went to work in Cardiff in the 1880's & married my GG Uncle George HOBBS in 1882. I do hope someone can help me on this.
Thank you
Jane   :)

Thank you so much Kim !!  I had no idea that the whole family moved to Cardiff by the 1871. As you say, they certainly look likely, I'm so grateful for your help.

  Very best wishes
  Jane  :)

Hello Steve,
Yes, I have found my George HOBBS, he was living with his family in Cardiff, close to where Mary JONES & family were living in 1871. Unfortunately I doubt if there's a connection with your Hobbs family in llanllowell near Usk.   The Hobbs clan seem to be everywhere !
 Good luck with your research.
Jane  :)

I would hazard a guess that James Jones was born in AbercArn not Abercorn

Alexander John Jones was married to Mary ANNE (known as Agnes) Buckley

After Agnes died  he married "Ma Lavin", a woman first name Arabella who lived with (but wasn't married to) George Tressider Lavin.

George died in what looks to me suspicious circumstances (poisoning) and witness to the death was not Arabella but Alexander (their P/T gardener at the time)

Three months later Alexander married Arabella. He was already living with her.
