Burford and Witney Lookup Requests

Hi Joan

I had a bit more time this morning,  so I rechecked Witney (St Mary) for Marias baptism,  I am afraid I can't see it. (My transcripts are on microfiche and some of the pages are very poor quality and difficult to read).

There are some Pearce/Peirce baptisms starting in 1811 for children of John & Hannah Pearce, I checked the OFHS marriage index there is a marriage for John Pearce to Hannah Hudson in 1806 in Witney - John is given as of Ducklington (next door parish).  So if this is the right John & Hannah there is a gap between the marriage and the first child baptised in Witney,  Maria's approx date of birth would fit into this gap,  she may have been born elsewhere and if they went to live in Witney when she was still a young child she may have thought she was born there.  There is not a baptism at Ducklington for her though - I checked.

Corollary - I think that the John Pearce (sp) - Hannah Hudson marriage could well be correct as the children of Maria Pearce  & Ephraim Spering start with William (his father), Ann (her mother), Maria (his mother) ...  more daughters ... John (her father).  Circumstantial, I know, but names often confer useful clues.  I hesitate to ask you to look up anything else, but did the John Pearce - Hannah Hudson marriage of 1806 have any witnesses? (and what was the exact date - ancestry & the IGI don't seem to cover Oxfordshire very well)?

Looking at OFHS Oxfordshire Marriage Index i have found this marriage that would fit and Shipton / Wychwood is a nearby parish to Burford

13 Oct 1808 William Sperring, Milton, to Mary Castle, Milton, at Shipton / Wychwood

Name spelt differently but it was common years ago for this to happen...

Hello, does anyone have anymore information about William Sperring, and if they had children? I'm looking to find the parents of Robert Sperring, who was born in Burford between 1803-1817 but who moved to Oswestry, Shropshire afterwards. Any information would be a great help, thanks

Basically have gotten so far in the past. Robert Sperring being born in Burford somewhere between 1803 -1817, but moved to Oswestry, Shropshire and married someone from Oswestry.

Trying to find out who Robert's parents were, but not having much luck, with William being from Burford I thought he could of been related in someway, maybe not.
