Alfred George , Douglas Pobjoy and the R.A .F Supermarine ' S ' type
« on: Friday 02 September 11 17:38 BST (UK) »
Alfred George worked for the Bristol Aviation Company helping to build Bristol fighters prior to joining the army in the First World War .
He worked alongside Douglas Pobjoy who designed radial engines for aeroplanes .
He was post w.w 1 offered a job by Pobjoy to set up a factory to produce an engine from scratch to testing facility to gain a possible order from I presume the government of the day .
By 1931 he and his team worked on the R.A.F Supermarine 'S' Type where it was stripped , re designed where required where the engine went on to win the Schneider Trophy . He then went onto work within the design dept . that produced the various models of the Spitfire .
Alfred was born 10 August 1894 and died in 1970 . Does anyone have any other information on his working life or photographs of his designs etc...

Alfred George is my Grandfather. I do not know much about the Supermarine connection, but I know he used to visit the Southampton area in the early 1900's as my family possess my Great Grandmothers postcard collection and it contains several from my Grandfather to my Great grandparents at Point Villa from Southampton.

Many of my Grandfathers aviation photographs were donated to the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden
