Hello. I have just come across your post when trying to see if anyone would be interested in some Alfred Herbert news! What a coincidence ...
My father worked at the Edwick branch of Alfred Herbert's from 1936 - to when he was made redundant when the works closed.
I have numerous photos and a lot of Alfred Herbert News.
My father was Chairman of the Social Club for many years.
I hope this may be of interest to you.

Thanks for your reply Diane......I can't remember anyone by the name of Dickens but A,H was a huge place,I worked in the main machine/shop 1950 to 1955.
I would be very interested in anything about A.H.,could we arrange something.
I should tell you that I now live in N.S.W Australia.
Best Regards.

Hey , my father Wendell ( Harry ) Tatam is 99 years old, got all his marbles and is still going strong. He worked for AH machine tools and multi spindle m/c's.  from about 1933 as an apprentice . Went to India for AH and set up the AH  multis making bullets, then till they sent him to Australia when they opened Sydney branch approx 1949. He has so many bound AH books, company club issues,  and social club magazines all in order from the early 20's till the '60-70's. Anyone want to let me know if anyone wants to share these irreplaceable magazines / books.
Old Herbert names from his era :
Ray Davis, John Barwell , bloke named someone Blunt, Jack Coleman,  . I can get other names off him anytime.  Anyone here got any comments ? would love to hear .
John Tatam

John
I think it would be most appropriate if Harry could be encouraged to donate his Alfred Herbert archive to the Coventry Archives at the Herbert Museum. I'm sure that they and future generations would appreciate their value. Another alternative archive is the Modern Records Centre at Warwick University.
