Extracted record  Familysearch - Advanced Search

christening 5th April 1812 at Golden Square Presbyterian Church , Berwick, Northumberland
William Purvis
parents are William Purvis and Jane Robertson

PURVIS / PURVES ...very common for spelling mistranscriptions in those days ...it certainly looks a very likely match for your William Purves ....what does any one else think ??
allan
added....Jane Hedley or Jane Mole on extracted record for Janes christening 16th aug 1812...do you have a date for the marriage of William Hedley and Alice Mole ?...I can`t find a marriage - hence the record stating Hedley or Mole
oakes,liverpool..neston..backford..poulton cum spittal(bebington)middlewich,cheshire......   sacht,helgoland  .......merrick,herefordshire adams,shropshire...tipping..ellis..  jones,garston,liverpool..hartley.dunham massey..barker. salford

Trish , thanks for 1841 census , no wonder I could not find them ! I had the 1851 census and just could not understand why I could not access the other census.
Still trying to figure out where Jane comes from , Scotland is not very helpful. I must have about 30 Jane Robertson , it will be difficult to trace her without an actual  place,An uphill job .
Info . much appreciated.

If I am correct she is still alive in 1861, age 70/71, born just Scotland again. (sorry I am on another search at present so cant look)
Next door is Son John and Family.
Where they Married may be a hint to where she was from (if it was in Scotland)
At present I cant find the Marriage with my resources.

Trish :)

Garstonite, I came to the same conclusion , as I could not find a marriage for William and Alice.
I was hoping to find a connection between William Hedley and Puffin Billy William Hedley.Tried on BMD and Find my Past for a  marriage  but no joy.
Thanks for taking time to search

Trish , I have just discovered a couple of days ago that there may be two Janes! Whilst looking  for Jane Robertson on LDS site I came across Jane Lorraine, married William Purves, Berwick .I thought it might be worth a look, when I did I think I opened a can of worms . I found William Purves m Jane Robertson 1810. then another marriage to Jane Lorraine , not specified , with 3 children . Both born Scotland. I am a bit confused to say the least. There was a note when I clicked on Jane Lorraine `s first marriage , on Samuel , child of Jane and Samuel Purves to say she had moved in with William Purves,so possibly first Jane had died.Samuel , Jane Lorraine`s husband died in 1821.
Going round in circles  !
Cheers EP.

MMm I saw the Marriage also on the IGI, 1810 to Jean Lorrains (Extracted).

If you notice in 1861 Census John Purves, born c 1831, has a Son Willm Loraine Purves born c 1856, Berwickshire (should be Berwick)

If you are sure your William was a Shoemaker then this seems to be his Son John and Family.

The Jane Robinson 1810 Marriage in Northumberland is Submitted so needs to be treated with caution.

Trish, you are brilliant !  I do hope you are right as this revelation is music to my ears. I had been contacted by a descendant of the family of Jane Robertson , and she was sure I had the wrong Jane, as she had a family bible with her Jane Robertson  marrying  a James  Ireland. If this Jane Lorraine is the right one , and I am sure you are right , at least I am only looking for one Jane. Hopefully someone will see this and recognise the names.
Many many thanks.
