In reference to your post on the 1861 census you have said that firstly William was aged 44 which I can accept. You did make a correction and said that William's age was more like 66 and Susan was aged 75.

Could or would you check this for me again please as I feel if Susan was his first wife her age may well have been 55 and not 75.

Sorry - have been away for the weekend!

That 1861 census looks to me like 66 for William and 75 for Susan - maybe they aren't the correct people?

Hi Wal

The address is Orange Street. I put single because it is a ditto in the column as quite a few above are listed as ditto for single.

Thank you Kevin, that was the family home address in 1871 and 1881.

Earlier Kevin you felt that William had been married before and you quoted the following;
Marriages, March qtr 1868
Edmonton district    vol 3a, page 150
Barltrop, William
+ and on the same page +
Humphries, Ann

So, this looks likely from 1861:
Reference RG09, Piece 1119, Folio 74, Page 21
Moor End, Broxted
Barltrop, William  Head  M  44  Labourer  b Great Canfield, Essex
Barltrop, Susan  Wife  F  75  b Barmston, Essex
Great Canfield is under 4 miles from Takeley!

I now tend to agree with you as I have located a death for a Susanah BARLTROP in the Jun ¼ 1864 registered in the Dunmow District.

NOW I know that William had a son called John born c.1838 and his birth was recorded as Henham. I now know from information you have sent me that he also had a daughter called Mary Ann born c.1842 at Thaxted.

MY QUESTIONS now are; were there any other children born to William and Susan and when was William and Susan married and where.

Regards
Wal
