« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 23:00 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out if there was such a pub of this name in the middle/late 1800's in Hereford, Widemarsh St particularly as i am trying to trace a family member who was the publican, can anyone help please. I am new to Roots chat & this is my first post.

It's actually easier to search by th name of the publican!

Have you tried Historical Trade Directories, such as Kelly's and Pigott's?

www.historicaldirectories.org
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Yes there was a Inn called the race horse the building was still there the last time I visited although it is now called something else these days. It's in Newtown Road, close to the canal basin.

I think the property is called Karlos now.

If you google earth it there is a good view of it.

I would suggest it is HOLMER Road, which is in Hereford - probably poor writing by the census enumerator?
