Selby Lamb was my Grandfather(x 3) born in Roxburgh in 1796 does anyone know where I might find more information about him, his family or his parents? Thank you

Closest I can see on the Old Parish Registers, actual extract entry on IGI, is this one:

Selby Lamb, b. 23 March 1794 in Yetholm, Roxburgh - parents Alexander Lamb and Jean Hogg.

A few children show for them through the 1790s in the early 1800 at Yetholm. Parents; marriage shows on 6 Jan. 1789 in Yetholm.

Images from the OPRs are certainly available on line through the pay to view site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - costs are reasonable. You can view images on line and then save/print off from your computer.

Talking of Hoggs from Yetholm, my 3 x great-grandfather Richard Stewart in Kelso had a daughter called Jemima Stewart who married Andrew Hogg of Yetholm in 1857. Andrew was a tailor, and the son of Andrew Hogg, tailor, and Ann Hall, and grandson of Andrew Hogg and Isabel Wood, all of Yetholm.

I meant to add the comment above that Selby is an unusual given name, but there was a well-known minister called the Rev. Selby Ord (1742-1813), minister of Longformacus. His name was perpetuated, because there was a later native of that village called Selby Sherriff.

Selby Lamb was also my Great Grandfather x3 so I guess we are researching the same line    All the following info is based on internet searches so can't verify its accuracy unfortunately.
I too have Selby's parents as Alexander Lamb b.1769 & Jean Hogg b.1765, m.1789.  Alexanders parents as Thomas Lamb b.about 1739, 04Jan1741 or about 1748 & Isabel/Isabell/Isobel Allen/Allan/Allon b.1745, m.1764 or 1768 (the joy of possible transcription errors and rounding of dates!). 
Now its gets a bit more dodgy - have Thomas Lamb's parents as Thomas Lamb and Elizabeth Penmen m.1739.  Now if this Thomas was born in 1710 then his parents might be Thomas Lamb and Mary Ker m.1709.
Unfortunately, this information is based on nothing else coming up on the searches I did and with missing records can't really trust this but might give you some names to focus on.

I would be really interested in what info you have after Selby - my lineage is Selby Lamb & Jane - Robert Lamb & Mary Ann Turnbull - John Lamb & Elizabeth LLoyd/Gibson etc, especially regards a supposed marriage between a James Lamb and Jane LLoyd (siblings of John and Elizabeth) that I can't find reference to anywhere.

Hi Oz; great to hear from you I will get back to you with more details, as I am off to Spain for a week tomorrow. My line is that Lamb was my mothers maiden name born in St.Helens; her father (my Grandfather) was Matthew Lamb born in Sunderland 1901; his father was also Matthew Lamb (my Great Grandfather) born Sunderland 1877; his father was Robert Lamb (my Great Great Grandfather) born Sunderland 1846 and his father was Selby Lamb (my Great, Great, Great Grandfather) born Roxburgh 1796.

Selby Lamb married Jane Burn in her native Monkwearmouth (Sunderland) in July 1821 and that is where my Lamb family line moves from Scotland and into Sunderland; my own Grandfather came down from Sunderland to St.Helens after the first World War looking for work.

Just getting my head around this Oz; your Great Grandfather John Lamb born 1878 and my Great Grandfather Matthew Lamb born 1877 were brothers

I will post more in a week or so but it would be great to share the research on our Lamb line.

G'day Steve,  Not a bad result for my first post on Rootschat!

I have John born in 1872 but Matthew born 1877 so definately brothers - looking forward to comparing notes.  I need a couple more posts to get Private Messaging working here but I'll shoot you an email address soon.

John worked at Pickersgill Shipyards and his unfortunate claim to fame is that he was one of those injured in a pretty serious shipyard accident in 1926.  Two of John's sons, Fred (my Grandfather) and Frank moved to Australia, starting the family line here.
