There doesn't seem to be such a surname as Penhorward!!

What was your gt. grandfathers full name and details  -

The only Rossi I can see in Carmarthen was a Vincenzo Rossi b.Jun.qtr.1915 Llanelly (mothers maiden name Caple) but he appears to have died the following year but from what I can find out both his parents were Italian.

All I can find in Carmarthenshire.

I've just seen a birth that took place in Mar.qtr.1918 for a female Rossi who's mother's maiden name was Penhorwood (not Penharward) but this was in Pontypridd, Glamorgan not Carmarthenshire.

If this is what you are referring to I think you will have to purchase the birth certificate if no other details known about her father - cannot find a marriage between a Rossi and a Penhorwood.

Have finally figured this one out - the complication was that a marriage took place in 1896 Swansea but the groom's name transcribed as Rosa!

Adolpho Rosa married Edith Ellen Penhorwood in the June quarter of 1896 in Swansea, Glamorgan.

1901 Census - Newport, Monmouthshire (ref.RG13-4960-60-24)

Adolf Rossi        26       Journeyman Butcher          b. Italy
Edith E. Rossi    23                                                 b. Swansea, Glamorgan
Theresa Rossi   3                                                           ditto
Phillipa A. Rossi (son)   1                                                ditto

Births index shows they had a number of children:

Theresa Johanna b.1898 Swansea, Glamorgan
Philipha Adolfo b.1900 Swansea, Glamorgan
Edith Ismena b.1902 Newport, Monmouthshire
Christopher Penhorwood b.1905 Newport, Monmouthshire
Nellie b.1907 Cardiff, Glamorgan
Clifford Reginald J. b.29/4/1911 Cardiff, d.1986 Pontypridd
Gladys J.E. b.1914 Cardiff
Pearl E. D. b.1918  Pontypridd

Adolfo Rossi d.1945 Pontypridd
Edith E. Rossi d.1949 Pontypridd

Edith Ellen Penhorwood was b.8/1/1877 Swansea, dau. of Alexander Penhorwood and Theresa (or Teresa) Davies  who married Sept.quarter 1861 Swansea, Glamorgan

Her father Alexander Penhorwood does not appear on any census I can trace - perhaps he worked at sea - his wife Theresa was widowed sometime between 1881 and 1891 census and the death entries show an Alexander Penhorwood bc.1825 d.1888 Swansea Glamorgan which must be him.

Can only find one baptism for an Alexander Penhorwood bc.1825 -

Alexander Penhorwood, bp.10/9/1826 Northam, Devon, son of William and Sarah.

Hello Sally52 :)

Welcome to Rootschat!

The Welsh Mariners Site has some Penhorwood references but not Alexander:
http://www.welshmariners.org.uk/search.php

However, the Cambrian newspaper index has references to Alexander being charged with drunkenness in 1877-8!

Hello Sally  :)

RootsChat is meant for finding ancestors, rather than living relatives, but if anyone reads your Post they can make contact with you using the PM (Personal Message) system.

New members must make at least three postings before being allowed to use the PM facility. See Help-Page:  http://www.rootschat.com/help/pms.php

Personal details of any people known or thought to be living will be removed from the thread, in accordance with RootsChat policy, to avoid spamming and other abuses. So people here will be able to give you general tips and hints how to proceed, but not any concrete details.

You will also find more tips here:
