Not on the Dorset opc site    but family search

Dorset, Parish Registers
Elizabeth Laws Christening 25 Jan 1807
St. Martin's, Wareham, Dorset, England
Father's Name   John Laws
Mother's Name   Elizabeth
Just a thought -Have you gone down the route that Witnessess at the marriage ie George Hurdle may have been his brother and wife ? I have found siblings are more common as Witnessess than parents

may be a complete red herring but there is a George Hordle s/o John and Sarah bapt at Lady St Mary on 3 April 1794. George marries a Mary (possibly Mary Slade Gritten on 16 Nov 1818 at Lady St Mary) and can be traced through several censuses, living in Wareham and then moving to Morden, just north of Wareham. He is a shoemaker in 1841 as is one of his sons, a cordwainer in in 1851, then a farmer of three acres in 1861. I see your John is also a shoemaker in Canford Magna / Parkstone. Sometimes occupations run in families and your John is George's younger brother.

In 1830 Pigotts directory there is a Thomas Hordle, boot and Shoemaker in West Street. There are several baptisms of children to Thomas and Elizabeth Hordle at West Street chapel in late 1790s - early 1800s. Some records mention they are of Lady St Marys.

A John Hurdle (Cordwainer) took on an apprentice (Marmaduke Hart) in Wareham in 1803. This could be George's father John.

And two  much earlier apprentice records for Thomas Hurdle (shoemaker) of Wareham taking on apprentices.

So there does seem to be a family of Hordles / Hurdles as shoemakers in Wareham.

Burials in Wareham

John Hurdle age 71 buried 25 Oct 1818 and Sarah Hurdle age 76 buried 22 Nov 1823. No indication on transcript that they were a couple. The dobs would both be about 1747, which would make this Sarah too old to be John's (1804) mother, and would be in her late 40's if she was George's mother.

Looking back further John (abt 1747) could be son of Thomas and Mary Hurdle bapt 2 Nov 1746 at Lady St Mary. There are several other children of this couple. This Thomas would be the right age to have taken on two apprentices in shoemaking in 1742 an 1752.

Joseph born 03 Aug 1815 bapt 26 Dec 1815 Ind (parish LSM)
Mary Ann born 06 Jan 1818 bapt 09 Aug 1818 Ind (parish LSM, occ shoemaker)

I'm confused about the two entries for Thomas. There is one record which has an unnamed Hordle bapt on 24 Aug 1808 in rather untidy writing. The other entry for 24 Aug is in a pre-printed book (maybe BT?) The date and surname are in one handwriting and child's name and names of parents are in another handwriting as if added later. I suspect the entry has been copied from the untidy one and it has been confused with the Thomas baptised in June. Could this be the missing John baptised late (4 years old?) and name and parents not recorded at the time. If he was born in 1804, he would fit nicely between Mary (1802) and the genuine Thomas. Thomas and Elizabeth seem to be the only Hurdles baptising children at West Street Independent at this time.

Elizabeth Hurdle married George Hooper on 27 Nov 1800 at LSM (grooms parish Holy Trinity). Witnesses: John Sprackling, Thomas Hurdle. (Is she Betty bapt 1776?, witness could be brother or father)

Ann Hurdle married George Best on 02 Oct 1809 at LSM Groom's status sojourner Witnesses: Henry Best, Sarah Hurdle.
Richard Hurdle married Dorothy Shepard on 02 Oct 1809 at LSM Witnesses: Sarah Frampton, Sarah Hurdle.
Double wedding of siblings with sister Sarah witness to both.

Children of Richard and Dorothy
Mary Shepherd born 17 Jul 1813 bapt 28 Dec 1813 Wareham Ind (of the parish of Corfe Castle)
(Haven't checked Corfe for other children of this couple)

John Hurdle buried 25 Oct 1818 age 71 LSM

George Hurdle married Mary Hebe Gritten on 16 Nov 1818 at LSM Witnesses: A. Prince, Elizabeth Gritten, William Gritten.
More detail on marriege mentioned previously. From census info this must George (1794)

Children of George and Mary
James born 06 Nov 1820 bapt 25 Feb 1821 Ind (parish LSM, occupation shoemaker)
Frederick born 31 Oct 1822 bapt 08 Dec 1822 (parish LSM, occupation shoemaker)
plus Several other

Thomas Hurdle buried 1 Mar 1820 age 11 LSM  (this would be the one born 1808)

William Hordle married Agnes Whiteron Turner on 25 Dec 1820 Groom's parish LSM Bride's parish Holy Trinity Witnesses George & Sarah Hordle, Ann Davy and Moses Standley.

Children of William and Agnes
John bapt 25 Dec 1821 occupation shoemaker

George Hurdle married Eliza Payne on 26 Dec 1825 at LSM Witnesses: William Payne and John Hordle
Where has this George come from? George (1794) is on census with wife Mary, unless that is a different Mary from the one he married in 1818, and he married Eliza Payne in between. But cannot find any burials for first Mary and Eliza, so I think this must be a different George.
