Donald Cox, Lichfield Cathedral, ass. organist 1950s till ?
« on: Wednesday 21 September 11 18:59 BST (UK) »
My second cousin Donald (J?) Cox, born in West  London after WW1 (1921?)  became assistant organist at Lichfield Catherdral and was an early conductor of the Lichfield Sinfonia. (Wiki etc and family anecdotes)  The family lost touch in the '40s. I am very anxious to know more about him during his time in Lichfield, parrticularly whether he had any children. His wife was pregnant last time my father saw him in the later '40s. If so, I should like to make contact. Any crumbs will be helpful... anything more at all.

Do you know the name of Donald's wife?

Just a reminder that information about living people (such as children of the marriage) should be sent by PM rather than posted on the thread.  ;)

I have received 2 photos of Donald conducting, one from 1965, so I now know that he lived that long. Any advance on that please?

Donald Cox lived quite near to me;  he lived in Bleakwood Road, Chatham.  His wife , Ellen or Helen was a headmistress.  Donald died in 1998.  He was the organist at Boxley church and he used to go to recitals at Rochester Cathedral.  He had a son , I did not meet him but believe he is an accountant.  I hope this us useful

thank you for this information. I have meantime been able to organise a meeting of 5 Cox 2nd cousins all hitherto strangers at the home of Donald's son, which was very productive and a lot of fun.
