I am a volunteer on the Armagh War Memorial site,we have been working on this case for months, seemly the grave of John Devlin is not recorded, there are unmarked graves in Tynan RC Graveyard, hence the reason I am asking for help.
"John Devlin is the one on http://www.armaghwar...ew.asp?ID=70525 but he is not yet recognised by CWGC. We have already obtained his death certificate and he did die from war related wounds. His story board has not yet been written up as we are waiting confirmation from CWGC."

Hoping some locals may see this and maybe point me in the right direction.
I am sure that there is next of kin, living in the area.
Joe

This looks like the Tynan R.C. Church- have you contacted the church to ask if they have a burial register (many don't)? Also, they might have a parish newsletter for announcements- would be worth asking if a request for information/relatives could be put in. Gravedigger is another possible source- they usually know local families and connections.

Middletown is mentioned as a possibility on the Armagh War Memorial website but I'm not sure where this would be. If the family were Catholic the Presbyterian Churchyard is highly unlikely but what about the Church of Ireland there? there's also a Tynan Church of Ireland.

Some good tips there, for some reason I did not think of the grave digger,
we know that John is buried in Tynan RC,but the grave is not marked.
Middletown was placed on the ste in error, there are a few volunteers working on the Armagh War Memorial project.
I will follow these leads, but I do not think there is a graves register and that is where the problem lies I have had this problem before with CofI.
Many thanks for your help.
Joe

The Church of Ireland usually kept burial registers, however, it might only have recorded members of the Established (Ch. of Ire.) Church buried there and not people of other religions.

Gravediggers often kept their own notebook to record information which can also be useful.

The local undertakers are usually a great source of information, many have records going back over generations incl maps, dates of grave purchase, grave numbers, date of opening of graves etc.

Maybe someone local knows who local u/takers would have been/are.

Had great success recently in Longford when I found the u/taker who would have covered a funeral almost 110 years ago, and although the business was closed for almost 20 years I was shown to the family home where they had all the records, they even brought me to g/yard and pin pointed the locations of several unmarked graves, names, dates etc...

Also a Devlin grave here http://www.rootschat.com/links/0f75/
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
